I used to see this fairytale vision of loveliness every spring when we lived in Pimlico. It wasn't the poshest of areas but this very bog standard London housing estate was completely transformed by a thick, winding carpet of cherry blossom.
And before Pimlico, I lived in Tokyo for a short time where celebrating the arrival of sakura (cherry blossom), perhaps with a picnic underneath the branches (hanami), was a national obsession, so how could I not try to paint a Pimlico Hanami feast for the eyes?
