Breakfast in the Tropics
Inspired by both my own breakfast view overlooking the Atlantic in the Caribbean, and the exotic flora and fauna of the region, with the humming bird also seeking out a tasty morsel. The colour palette is hotter and deeper than British landscapes, as I seek to evoke the atmosphere and joy I feel when in the Caribbean. I spent a year in my early twenties teaching English on the French island of Guadeloupe and it was the first time I'd become interested in views, plants and walking - a sure sign of getting older!
This absolutely dream commission was from a brave family who wanted a total and joyous surprise for a big space above the fireplace in their new Birmingham home. Showing them the final framed piece in that room was very special.
